SHORT BIO
OGONEK is the Drum & Bass project of Bulgarian producer, DJ and visual artist Valery Sholevski. Making music since 1996 and active as OGONEK since 2001, he has built a long-standing reputation in the underground scene through dark, high-pressure Drum & Bass, technoid sound design, cinematic atmosphere and uncompromising club energy.
Before establishing Metafiziq Recordings as an independent Drum & Bass label dedicated to heavy sound, visual identity and underground culture, Valery Sholevski was part of the early Bulgarian electronic underground and co-founded PBPM / Porno BPM together with Strahil Velchev — KiNK, SuB, KEi and Zenk. The collective became one of the pioneering independent forces in Sofia’s electronic music scene, connecting production, DJ culture, events and local artist development.
Over the years, OGONEK developed a distinctive heavy Bulgarian Drum & Bass sound — raw, dark, cinematic and pressure-driven — often recognized by listeners as the OGONEK style, or “OGO STEP”.
With over 300 tracks released and collaborations including OGONEK & COOH and OA, his music has appeared on labels such as Future Sickness, PRSPCT, Mindocracy, Big Riddim, Melting Pot, Black Hoe, Druid Records, Insane, Culture Assault, Battle Audio and Warfare Recordings.
